Chitose Aquarium, Salmons’ Hometown
Chitose Aquarium, Salmons’ Hometown, has one of the largest freshwater aquarium tanks in Japan. You can observe various freshwater organisms around the world, mainly those in salmon family and other freshwater fish in Hokkaido. In its Underwater Observation Room, Japan’s first facility where you can directly watch the underwater world of Chitose River, you can observe daily lives of the creatures of the season living in Chitose River. Among their activities, the must-see is a group of salmons in autumn climbing up the river for laying eggs. The aquarium holds numerous events such as planting salmon fry experience and various other exhibitions.
